For the first time in its (long) history, the Bellaria Film Festival (this year’s is the 28th edition) decided to open a new concorsi, the competition for the best crossmedia programme. At 9.10 pm, the concorsi vincitore was announced. And it was Prison Valley.
Up on stage, you have to say a couple of words. Alora, it’s grazie mille. What else can you say? Grazie mille to all the people who’d come to the screening of Prison Valley a little earlier in the day. Grazie mille to Mario Tolomelli, a peerless translator who’s always there, to the festival staff who’ve been fighting for a certain type of cinema that’s certainly independent for the last 28 years and who decided (for the first time in its history and for the very first time at an Italian festival) to focus on web documentaries; grazie mille to the sun at the festival, to the Adriatic coast at the festival, to the Germans at the coast, already in their shorts, but not really really in the auditorium. Alora, grazie mille to those cheerful scallywags Christian and Nicola (and their ladies) from Peace Reporter who were also in competition with their excellent Empty House. And grazie mille to all those who believed in Prison Valley. We’ll tell you what happened next, that’s a promise. Buonanotte to you all.
